 Home Security Alarm Monitoring

What sort of alarm monitoring do you require? What sort of alarm monitoring options do you have?

Before you select an alarm system, you should first decide if you want your alarm system monitored. If you do want alarm monitoring, do you want it monitored by a security company or would you prefer to monitor it yourself?

Security Company Alarm Monitoring
The benefits of using the services of an alarm monitoring company are:

  • A relatively low up-front cost associated for the purchase and installation of the alarm system. Generally cheaper in the short term.
  • They can interpret an alarm and send a guard response, when required.
  • This will give you the peace of mind that no matter where you are, there will be a response to your alarm system.

The negatives of using an alarm monitoring company are:

  • Similarly to buying a new mobile telephone by signing up to a plan. While the up-front cost is lower, you can be assured the service provider will more than make their money through ongoing costs.
  • You may not always received the service level you expect, such as a delayed response.
  • Many people do choose to have your alarm system monitored by a security company.

If you are thinking of using a security monitoring company, speak with others about their experiences with various companies, shop around and make sure you are aware of ALL the ongoing costs and charges. Ask questions and read the fine print.

Monitoring the Alarm System Yourself
Alarm systems are available enabling the pre-programming of mobile telephone numbers into the system. When an alarm is activated, the alarm system will send a text message to the designated number(s).

The benefits of monitoring your own alarm system include:

  • Ongoing running costs will be far less.
  • Alarm sent directly to your mobile telephone - you know what's going on immediately and can coordinate your own response.

The negatives include:

  • Higher up-front cost to purchase and install your alarm system.
  • You may not want to or be in a position to 'monitor' your mobile telephone 24/7.
  • You may find it overly stressful to manage the situation when you receive an alarm.

You should consider both alarm monitoring options and work out what will work best for you. You may even choose not to have your alarm system monitored at all.
